I dread sewing clothes, it scares the life out of me! I think what you've made looks brilliant, and your crochet baskets look cute too :o)
To crochet around the patchwork, I did blanket stitch around the outside first, and used that to crochet on -if you get my meaning. I found a patchwork/crochet blanket in a book, and it looks absolutely gorgeous..I'll post it on my blog so you can see it, cos' I think you'll like it too :o)
